Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group benefits from Lough Boora charity Christmas cards
Members of the Board of Directors of Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group, with their Service Manager, travelled to Lough Boora Discovery Park for the formal presentation of proceedings from the sale of the park’s charity Christmas cards.
The initiative led by the team in Lough Boora Discovery Park, in conjunction with the support of local photographer Paul Moore, designed, printed and disseminated Christmas Cards.
Some 100% of proceeds benefited the charity with Bord na Móna fielding all associated costs. John Conroy, Manager of Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group extended the charities sincere gratitude to Lough Boora Discovery Park for choosing them for this initiative and to Paul Moore for donating the imagery for the campaign. John noted that the initiative was hugely successful and not only raised funds for the charity but raised awareness also of the support the charity continues to provide. John highlighted to those present that there had been a 64% increase in demand for services in 2023 on 2022 coupled with a 97% increase in 2022 on 2021. Initiatives such as this were hugely welcomed to ensure Dochas can continue to provide the level of services to meet the level of demand being experienced and thanked all those, including retailers, who were in any way involved on any level in this initiative.
A statement released by Lough Boora Discovery Park reads:
“Bord na Móna extends heartfelt gratitude for the privilege to support the invaluable endeavours of Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group, which tirelessly serves the people and communities of Offaly. The vital services they provide are reliant on funding, and we are honoured to utilize the breath-taking landscapes of Discovery Park to facilitate and enhance their essential fundraising efforts. Our gratitude extends to local photographer Paul Moore, whose stunning winter imagery of Lough Boora Discovery Park captured the essence of its beauty. Paul's photographic journey, nurtured by the parklands where he initially embarked on capturing images with his phone, showcases his deep-rooted connection with the diverse landscapes. His generous donation of these images for our charity Christmas card collection symbolizes a harmonious collaboration of art and altruism.
The success of our charity Christmas card collection resonates deeply, as it signifies not just the generosity of those who purchased the cards, but also the collective effort of the community coming together for a noble cause. We are elated to announce that €1,974 was raised through the sales of these cards, with every cent directly benefiting Dochas Offaly Cancer Support Group. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of individuals and local businesses alike. Our sincerest appreciation goes to the Organic Kitchen, Ballycommon Bakehouse, Kilcormac Development Association, Pollagh Community Shop, Dolans Pharmacy Tullamore, and all the workshops that participated in the sale of these cards. Your dedication and support have made a significant impact on our local community, reaffirming the power of collective goodwill and solidarity in making a difference in the lives of those in need.”
