Offaly dual star presents medals to Birr primary school pupils
Offaly dual GAA star Cormac Egan was the guest of honour at a medal presentation night which took place in St Brendan's Boys Primary School in Birr shortly before Christmas.
Cormac received a great reception at the Offaly Cumann na Mbunscoil football winners' medal presentation event for the St Brendan's school community and Gaelscoil na Laochra guests.
After entering the school hall, to the memorable strains of The Boys of Offaly, Cormac spoke eloquently to the large crowd and to the panel of players.
The boys all received their winners' medals and had their photo taken with Cormac too.
Both schools' principals, Mr Crofton and Ms Ni Chlerigh, spoke and thanked the coaches, Mr Kennedy, Mr Carroll and Mr Crofton for their time, in addition to congratulating the panel of 39 boys on their achievement.
Mr Crofton also thanked the parents and staff of the boys' school, along with Board of Management chairperson Pat Teehan for his support of GAA in the school.
The St Brendan's principal described Cormac Egan as "an absolute role model" for all young sportspeople.
The Tullamore player took part in a question and answer session with Mr Crofton about balancing the demands of dual games, along with making sure your studies and future are focused also. These were wise words from a young man with a bright future ahead of him both on and off the field.
The autumn 2023 St Brendan's Birr boys / Gaelscoil na Laochra gaelic games season involved 39 players, three coaches, 100% support from staff and parents, three championship matches, two challenge matches, one final, one trophy, gold medals and memories to last a lifetime!
