FG select team for local elections in Birr Municipal District
Almost 150 people thronged the Fine Gael selection convention in Birr recently where Cllr John Clendennen and Hughie Egan were selected to stand in the upcoming local elections, likely to be held on June 7th.
The Kinnitty-based public representative, who is the current Cathaoirleach of Birr Municipal District, expressed his gratitude to everyone that took the time to travel to the selection convention despite the difficult weather conditions.
He commented that "the massive show of support towards me in the ballot box is really appreciated and not something I take for granted".
Cllr Clendennen will be joined on the ballot paper by fellow Fine Gael candidate Hughie Egan from Doon, who narrowly lost out in the 2019 local elections.
He said he is looking forward to getting going with the campaign and hopefully with the support of all members and the broader electorate, getting re-elected to Offaly County Council in June.
The Birr Municipal District is made up of six members - the sitting councillors are Cllr John Leahy, Cllr John Carroll and Cllr Eamon Dooley, both of whom more recently said they will not be running in June, Cllr Clare Claffey of the Social Democrats, Shinrone's Cllr Peter Ormond and Cllr John Clendennen.
