Birr Castle Demense and Tullamore Park closed as Storm Isha topples trees in Offaly

Offaly is dealing with the after-effects of Storm Isha, which felled numerous trees across the county and caused power outages in some areas.

According to the ESB's Power Check service, some homes and businesses in Clonminch and Edenderry were without electricity at the time of writing at noon today (Monday).

Conminch Road was closed this morning, and Offaly County Council said ESB networks had "switched out lines" there to allow for "the safe removal of fallen tree" by the local authority.

Lloyd Town Park in Tullamore is closed due to "fallen and partially fallen" trees, while an update shared by Birr Castle Demense also outlined the toll taken by storm.

"Following Storm Isha, the demesne will remain closed today to allow for clean up," Birr Castle Demense stated in a social media post.

"We have two large trees down which are blocking pathways, and there is also a lot of debris to clean up before we can reopen safely.

"We hope to reopen at 09:00 tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. However we will keep an eye on weather for tomorrow also, as there are high winds forecast again. Thank you for your understanding!"

Offaly County Council also shared details of areas where its staff had cleared fallen trees before 9am this morning.

In the Edenderry area, trees were cleared at R402 Ballyfore; R442 Bracknagh to Rathangan Road; Ballykane, Walsh Island; Ard, Geashill; Botley Lane, Portarlington; and Toberdaly, Rhode.

In the Birr Municipal District, staff were assessing the following areas where reports of fallen trees were received: Dunkerrin, Cullenwaine, Kinnitty (Roscrea Road), Cloghan (Wynne's Cross), Banagher, Pollagh, Ferbane (Gallen) and Lumcloon school.
