Major Tullamore housing project gets go-ahead

A planning application for some 120 housing units on Collins Lane, Ardan, Tullamore, has been given the go-ahead by Offaly County Council

Collins Lane Housing Development Ltd was given planning permission on Friday for a Large-Scale Residential Development (LRD), subject to 32 conditions, for the major housing project.

The initial application, lodged in August last, was for 102 houses and 24 apartments with a childcare facility at Collins Lane.

Further information was sought by the local authority in October and received in December.

Among concerns raised in local submissions were access to the site, the lack of a safe crossing point to the Educate Together school, concerns about the traffic impact the extra homes in the area would have, and the need for a Local Area Plan.

Details of the 32 planning conditions imposed by Offaly County Council have not yet been published.

However, in further information submitted, the developer has agreed to close a proposed Collins Lane entrance to vehicular traffic and to confine it to pedestrian access only.
