Singing at Shane MacGowan's funeral was "a moment I'll never forget" - Mundy

Offaly singer-songwriter Mundy has described his performance at Shane MacGowan's funeral Mass as "a moment I'll never forget".

The 48-year-old Birr native duetted with Camille O'Sullivan on Haunted a song which MacGowan recorded with Sinéad O'Connor in the mid-1990s.

It was one of a number of memorable performances during the Mass in Nenagh on Friday, which also heard musical contributions from the likes of Nick Cave, Imelda May, Glen Hansard, Lisa O'Neill and Spider Stacy of The Pogues.

In a social media post this evening, Mundy shared a video of the 'Haunted' duet at the funeral, and wrote: "This is a moment I'll never forget. One of the biggest honours bestowed upon me, and to sing with Camille O'Sullivan really was perfect.

"My love to all the friends and family of Shane and to the almighty Pogues for carrying his words and making unbelievable music."

Fr Pat Gilbert, who was a hugely popular chaplain in Birr Community School for many years, was the chief celebrant at the funeral Mass.
