Tullamore spotted in Riga!
Twelve hundred miles away from Ireland, at the Christmas Market in Riga, Latvia, an eagle-eyed visitor was highly amused to spot a directional sign indicating ‘Tulach Mhór -Tullamore”.
The sign, it turned out, was outside a temporary pub called 'The Tully Snug' set up for the market. The venue was selling a range of cocktails and winter warmers that had Tullamore Dew as their main ingredient.
Oddly enough, while it was the direction sign that first caught the eye of the local visitor to Riga, the distance from Tullamore to Riga was greatly overstated on the sign itself, which gave it as 2,995km. A quick Google search gives the actual distance between the two points as 1,953kms!
As it happened, at the same market, there was another stall called Baileys - selling drinks with Baileys as the main ingredient, which proves that Irish drinks are beloved of revellers the world over!
