Birr motorist drove at nearly twice the 60km speed limit

Offaly Gardai have reported several speeding detections in Birr at the weekend - including one which involved a motorist driving at a shocking 115km per hour in a 60km zone.

On social media, Gardai said speed checks were carried out in Birr town on Saturday morning, resulting in "a number of detections" for speeding in 50km or 60km zones.

The most dramatic speeding incident involved the driver who was clocked at almost twice the 60km limit in one area of town.

The Garda post urged all drivers to slow down, abide by the speed limit, and arrive alive.
