Monthly school reunion event set for Tullamore

A social meeting to reunite the former pupils of the former St Brigid's School and Scoil Mhuire in Kilcruttin, Tullamore, who attended the schools in the 1960s, will take place on a monthly basis in Tullamore.

The former pupils will meet on the second Thursday of every month in the Tullamore Court Hotel and the next meeting will be held there on Thursday, November 16 from 10am to 11am.

The regular reunion event is being organised by Sean Robbins and Thomas Keane who held the first meeting last month.

They have also set up a WhatsApp group for former pupils of the boys' schools to chat and keep up-to-date on the monthly social gatherings which provide an opportunity for them to talk and catch up with their peers.

Sean is looking forward to the opportunity to meet with his peers regularly and he said that the first meeting was “very enjoyable.”

He recalled to the Offaly Independent this week being the first pupil to enter the new Scoil Mhuire on April 1, 1957 after moving from St Brigid's School.

The Tullamore man is hoping that the former students have a “lovely time” at the meetings and said that when he suggested it to some of his friends they felt that it was a “great idea.”

Sean said that a lot of former students are scattered across the world.

It could be frustrating for any former students living abroad to attend a school reunion on one fixed date, so the monthly meeting means that they can attend at a suitable time for them, he highlighted.

Many of the pupils who attended the Tullamore primary schools went on to further education at the local Christian Brothers' schools or technical schools in the locality.

Any former students of St Brigid's School or Scoil Mhuire in Tullamore who would like to be added to the WhatsApp group to find out more about the monthly social meetings in the town, should contact Sean Robbins on 085 264 2752 or Thomas Keane on 087 132 9113.
