Weather advisory issued as Storm Ciarán set to impact Leinster

Parts of the country are set to be hit by further flooding this week, with Storm Ciarán prompting a weather advisory from Met Éireann that will be in effect until Thursday night.

The national forecaster said the Leinster and Munster counties would be worst affected by the storm, which is expected to make its presence felt later tomorrow (Wednesday) and into Thursday.

"On Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be heavy showers or longer spells of rain at times with flooding likely in places, as soils are saturated and river levels are high," stated Met Éireann.

"Squally showers on Wednesday morning will be accompanied by very gusty conditions.

"Later Wednesday and on Thursday, further rainfall associated with Storm Ciarán may lead to flooding. It is likely that the heaviest rain will be in southern and eastern coastal counties."

Met Éireann warned that the coming days would bring low visibility and difficult or dangerous driving conditions.
