Sing Up for Science with Bohemian Strings
Midlands Science is hosting a very special free event in Tullamore as part of the Midlands Science Festival this year.
Sing Up for Science is a free music concert with Bohemian Strings and it will include popular tunes, movie themes and classical hits. The MC for the evening is Dr Claire O’Connell, Irish Science Writer of the Year who many will know from her engaging work in the Irish Times and a number of other publications. Between tunes, we’ll hear a little about why we all love music so much, what happens in our brain when we listen to music and how we can use music to help us when we are feeling stressed. So come along to this free concert and learn a little about the science of music, while you sing along with your favourite tunes.
Jackie Gorman of Midlands Science commented: “Music is a universal language and it’s also an amazing way to explore science, everything from sound vibrations to the changes that take place in our brain when we learn a musical instrument, there’s so much science to explore. But this evening is all about having fun with music and science so be ready to sing along with tunes from the Beatles, Beach Boys and much.” Megan Cronley of Tullamore Library said in tandem with Offaly Libraries STEAM programme, Tullamore Library is delighted to host the Midland Science Festival during Science Week 2023.
This event is part of the Midlands Science Festival and is supported by Science Foundation Ireland as part of national Science Week. Taking place from November 12-19, the theme for Science Week 2023 is ‘Human?’, which asks people to consider what it means to be human in today’s world, and how the decisions we make today will impact the people and world of the future.
Bohemian Strings have performed with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Mick Flannery, Richard Clayderman and many more. This evening exploring the science of music will include classic hits from the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Depeche Mode, the score from the Mission and a number of classical favourites. The event takes place in Tullamore Library on Thursday November 9 and places are free but must be booked in advance on www.midlandsscience.ie
