Student council elected at Oaklands Community College in Edenderry

Oaklands Community College in Edenderry has welcomed the announcement of its new student council for the current academic year.

Congratulations were extended to all the students who were elected to the student council by their class peers.

Student council Link Teacher, Ms Fionnuala Finlay, was delighted with the response to the election and the dedication shown by the new student council at their recent induction training in the school.

Members of the council have received their initial induction and are now busy getting to work for the year ahead.

The student council members for 2023- 2024 are as follows:

1st Year: Ruta Dukaviciute (1 Nore), Billy Crampton (1 Lee) and Chloe Duffy Ayres (1 Bann) 2nd Year: Sean O Neill (2 Oak), Anthony Yip (2 Oak) & Aleksa Ponomarjova (2 Fir) 3rd Year: Aaron Kenny (3 Allen, Clodagh Mc Closkey (3 Neagh), Rebecca Moore (3 Neagh), Clodagh Burke (3 Ree) and Daniel Clarke (3 Ree) Transition Year: Andrea Heffernan (TY 1), Lucy Murrin (TY 1) and Colin Hanlon (TY 2) 5th Year: Anna Creedon (5A), Abigail Ellis (5A), Precious Omoyayi (5D) and Abigael Swart (5D) 6th Year: Emma Coyne (6A), Corey Eady (6B) and Meabh Hynes (6C), 6 LCA: Shannon Doran (6 LCA 2) Oak Centre: Kyle Brazil.

In other news from the school, students participated in a SingOUT! event as part of SingFest 2023.

The choral event took place at the Esker Arts Centre in Tullamore on Thursday, October 12.

Students were led though the day by the talented Melody Hine, award-winning A Capella arranger and choral director from the United States, who put them through their paces during an A Capella/Barbershop Choral workshop.

SingFest is a regional celebration of all things singing which is organised and funded by Music Generation in conjunction with Arts Council Creative and Collaboration fund. The event has taken place annually since 2016.

Oaklands Community College singers on their recent trip to the SingOUT workshop at Esker Arts Centre in Tullamore.

Students and staff at Oaklands Community College also recently engaged in a week-long focus on study skills. The dedicated study skills week took place at the school between Monday, October 9, and Friday, October 13.

During the week, all students had the opportunity to engage in study skills workshops and activities, with a focus on goal setting and study every morning at tutorial time.

A number of professional trainers and motivational speakers visited the school to work with students, preparing them for future success.

Many class groups also had the opportunity to meet with past students who have gone on to study in various disciplines at third level. The past pupils generously shared their time and expertise with current students as they prepare for their State examinations.
