Michael Dennedy from Kinnitty.

Information night to support Offaly boy following tragic farm accident

An information night will take place tonight (Friday) to support Michael Dennedy (14) from Kinnitty who lost his leg recently following a farm accident.

The event will take place in Kinnitty Community Centre this evening at 8pm to inform people how they can support Michael.

A support group, 'Doing it for Dennedy' has been set up to help Michael and to organise fundraisers to enable him to access the health care, rehabilitation and future prosthetic technology he needs to regain his mobility and confidence.

Michael has faced an unimaginable challenge following the tragic accident involving a tractor. He was an active teenager who loved his sports and simply being outdoors prior to the accident and is determined to regain his independence and live life to the full.

Michael's family are hoping to raise funds to go directly towards his medical bills, prosthetic equipment and ongoing therapy. The cost associated with his recovery is significant and any contribution big or small can make a difference.

Shinrone/Coolderry Community Games voiced their support for the support group and its fundraising efforts, saying: “The Dennedy's joined our Community Games family this year and have competed at Area, Provincial and National Finals. We ask our members and followers at Area and beyond to get on board and support. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.”

A number of fundraising events are in the works including a golf classic next summer.
