Investigation launched after man's body is discovered in Tullamore

Gardai have launched an investigation after the body of a man in his 40s was discovered in Tullamore today (Wednesday).

The man's body was found at approximately 1.30pm in the Meadow Close area, not far from Tullamore Fire Station.

The scene was then sealed off to allow technical examinations take place.

A short time ago, a Garda spokesperson said the body of the man had been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore.

"The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation," the spokesperson said.

"The scene remains preserved for technical examination this evening."
