Update: Evacuated residents allowed home after bomb scare

Residents in a Mullingar estate who were forced to evacuate their homes after a suspected bomb was discovered outside a house earlier today have been allowed to return after the device was removed by the bomb disposal squad.

A number of houses in Grange Meadows were evacuated this morning after the suspicious device was spotted outside a house. Gardaí were alerted and a cordon was put in place.

Members of the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended the scene and removed the device for disassembly and technical examination.

Gardaí says that enquiries are ongoing.
