Naomh Molaoise raises funds with bikeathon and colour run

Naomh Molaoise LGFA – a club which serves both Daingean and Killeigh parishes - recently raised funds with a successful 24-hour bikeathon, in addition to other enjoyable activities.

The bikeathon event began at 10am on June 17 and ended at 10am the following day.

Many club players from U14 right up to adult level cycled in the bikeathon. The club is also thankful to the parents, supporters and coaches who also gave their time to cycle and raise some much-needed funds. A huge number of kilometres were clocked up over the 24 hours.

Naomh Molaoise has thanked Daingean GAA for the use of their excellent facilities and Grand Canal Wheelers for their assistance. The club is grateful to Ballycommon Bake House for their participation in the cycle, sponsorship and use of their marque for the event.

U8, U10, U11 and U12 matches were played as young players from the club demonstrated their talents.

“Our girls played some super football, showcasing their skills in their matches against Edenderry and St Broughan’s. It was great to see such a large number of girls playing on the pitch and enjoying every minute,” said a club spokesperson.

U14 girls Emily McDarby, Kitty Carey, Farrah Delaney and Ellie McCloskey refereed the U8 and U10 games, while Rachel Donagher and Keelin Dunne took charge of the U12 and U11 games. Mount Lucas Windfarm sponsored the treat bags for all the players and they were happily accepted by all.

After their matches, the U8s, U10s, U11s and U12s enjoyed a variety of races and fun games including an obstacle course, sack race, egg and spoon race, a three-legged race, balloon team race and water race. At the end of each race and often during it, the girls were rewarded/covered in colour dust! The girls loved it and especially enjoyed covering their coaches in the colour dust.

A special word of thanks to Sandra Sheeran who organised the races and colour run. She co-ordinated the games on the day along with many of the U14 and U16 girls, who seemed to enjoy it as much as the younger girls. Many were unrecognisable at the end between face paint and colour dust!

There was also a fabulous bake sale and the club thanks all who baked for the event. “We were so impressed at the response we got. There was a huge variety of buns, cakes, cookies, sandwiches and treats on offer," said the club. "Thanks to everyone and we hope you all enjoyed the delicious selection. Thanks to the parents and players who served at the sale, made tea and chatted at the sale, especially Sarah Betson who was busy behind the table for most of the day."

A draw was held near the end of the bikeathon with the sponsorship cards received up to then, with U8 player Ruby Gorman winning an Offaly jersey.

Naomh Molaoise thanked Bridie Roe for taking photos, as well as all sponsors of the event. “Thank you so much for supporting our girls, club and ladies' football,” the club added.
