Lidl pays a visit to Mount Lucas parkrun
There was a fantastic turnout at last Saturday’s Mount Lucas parkrun as Ireland’s official fresh food partner to parkrun, Lidl, paid a visit.
The team from Lidl were on hand at the finish line to distribute fresh fruit and refreshments, with all participants getting their hands on the exclusive #LidlSteps parkrun t-shirt, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Speaking after the event, John Swift from Lidl said “We in Lidl are delighted to be involved with parkrun nationally to help create a healthier community by the promotion of healthy eating, through our parkrun program and our Lidl+ app.
"We are particularly impressed with Mount Lucas parkrun, where, this morning, we were given a very warm welcome and the sense of community involvement in this particular parkrun is very evident”.
Catherine Swaine from another sponsor, Bord na Móna added: “We are delighted and proud to be involved with Mount Lucas parkrun since its inception in July 2017 and this involvement is a good example of Bord na Móna’s continued support for the local community.
"Our parkrun success is due, in no small way, to our wonderful volunteers who turn up week after week, regardless of the weather, along with our well mapped out route and interesting surroundings. We welcome Lidl to Mountlucas parkrun this morning and hope they enjoyed their time with us”.
Not to be overshadowed by the visit of Lidl, two of the parkrun’s junior participants, R J Murphy and Nathan Cojocaru, both completed their 50th run by crossing the line together. They were joined by family and friends to help them celebrate this milestone.
Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k event for runners and walkers that takes place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 Countries across the world.
Mount Lucas Parkrun is based at Mount Lucas Wind farm outside Daingean, so why not turn up at 9.30am on Saturday morning to see what it is all about.
