Local Offaly school honoured at Gaelbhratach presentation ceremony

At this year's Gaelbhratach presentation ceremony, 154 students from 18 primary schools, including Cloneyhurke National School, Offaly, were honoured at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Tuesday, June 13.

These students worked brilliantly throughout the year to promote the Irish language, and the Gaelbhratach team were delighted to recognise the fruits of this work. Each school was presented with a Gaelbhratach flag as recognition for their efforts at a fun-filled day of bouncy castles, céilí dancing, and of course, the Irish language.

Niamh Ní Chróinín, TG4 and Cúla4 presenter, said, “I am so excited to be here today presenting Gaelbhratach flags to these young students. I think this is a brilliant scheme, and these schools’ passion for Irish couldn’t be clearer. These young people should be very proud of themselves.”

Speaking at the event, Gaelbhratach manager, Mairéad, had this to say: “These young people continue to inspire us every year, and although each school is different, we all have a common aim of promoting Irish. This is the tenth year of the scheme and we couldn’t be prouder of this, and of the school committees and all they have achieved this year.”

She added, “Our goal has always been to normalise the speaking of Irish in schools across the country. We would like to thank our funders, Foras na Gaeilge and the Department of Education, and of course the brilliant schools who take part. A huge thanks also to the Tullamore Court Hotel for hosting today’s event.”
