AIMS nominations galore for Offaly musical societies

Tullamore Musical Society and Birr Stage Guild have been honoured with nominations from the Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS). The annual AIMS awards will take place in Killarney on Saturday, June 17.

Tullamore Musical Society received four nominations for its production of 'Michael Collins: A Musical Drama', including best programme (designed by Georgie O'Toole) and best chorus. In addition to this, stage manager Wayne Handy was nominated for best stage management, the category he won in 2019 with Clara Musical Society's production of 'Chicago'. Finally, Colin Hughes, who is also the Chairman of the musical society, was nominated for best supporting actor for his role as Joe Emmet, friend and confidante of Michael Collins.

Tullamore MS took to social media to congratulate their nominees as well as their neighbours in Birr, saying that all of these nominations are “a great result for the midlands!”

Birr Stage Guild's Patrick Byrne picked up a nomination for best supporting actor for his role of Rab in 'Sunshine on Leith'. This was Patrick's fourth musical with Birr Stage Guild.

Of Patrick's nomination, Birr SG said: “To say we are excited for Patrick on his AIMS nomination is an understatement! An amazing talent and friend! We couldn't be happier or prouder. So well deserved, bring on Killarney!”
