Horse named after Offaly great wins at Fairyhouse

There was success on the flat for Henry de Bromhead as Matt Connor, named after the Offaly football great, landed the 10-furlong handicap for three-year-olds at Fairyhouse on Thursday.

Ridden by Billy Lee, the 3/1 favourite had a good deal in hand as he beat the Andy Oliver-trained 100/30 chance Picture Of A City by a length and a half in the colours of the Patocallaghanracing Syndicate.

Moneygall conditional jockey Philip Donovan and County Wexford trainer Cormac Farrell were on the mark at Down Royal on Friday evening where Pro Bono landed the two-mile one-furlong maiden hurdle. Donovan got the Patrick Hayes-owned 16/1 chance up in the closing stages to beat the Ellen Doyle-trained Master Splinter by a neck.
