New pedestrian crossing at 'dangerous' Tullamore road welcomed

Tullamore councillor Sean O'Brien said this week that he was delighted to see the completion of work on the new Collins Lane pedestrian crossing in the town.

The Independent councillor said the new crossing would improve safety for pedestrians, "especially the many schoolchildren who use it to attend a number of local schools."

"We have been asking for this work to be completed for some time as this very busy road has been dangerous for all pedestrians and cyclists.

"The lining, road marking and signage were completed last week and the ESB connected the power," he said, adding that the new junction would be controlled by traffic lights.

"The council have erected signs to inform car users that there is a new junction but I would advise all users of this junction to take extra care while they get used to the junction.

"Meanwhile I will be asking the council to consider installing a raised pedestrian crossing on the access road between the roundabout at the Hawthorns and the roundabout at Norbury Woods/Droim Liath at the front of the Educate Together National School.

"The extra traffic in this area, due to the building of many additional houses, has made this road much busier and the children attending the Educate Together school find it difficult to cross this road," concluded Cllr O'Brien.
