Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund hails TradFest fundraising

The Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund has hailed the fundraising efforts of Tullamore TradFest after over €17,500 was raised for the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund.

The fund was set up by the Murphy family and the Ashling Murphy Memorial fund committee in November 2022, to honour her strong legacy as an outstanding musician, sportsperson and educator and her contribution to Irish culture and heritage.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the fund said: "On the closing evening of Tullamore TradFest 2023, it is fitting to reflect on this night last year which saw an incredibly touching and emotional concert take place in memory of Ashling

"The Sunday concert, ‘Ceiliúradh Ceolmhar ar Ashling Murphy’ was a tremendous tribute and celebration of Ashling’s life and music.

"It was a beautiful event featuring music from Ashling’s family, friends and groups of musicians from all over Ireland and further afield, which Ashling had a close association with.

"We are eternally grateful to everyone involved - from those who gave up their time so generously in the planning, organisation, promotion and running of the event to those who travelled from near and far to join on the night.

"We are particularly indebted to the Tullamore TradFest crew who went above and beyond to make the night the huge success that it was. As a result of their efforts and the fundraising that occurred prior to and during the event, a massive total of €17,645.50 was raised for the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund, which will go directly to continuing Ashling’s strong legacy. It will support us in providing tuition, facilities and equipment to enhance areas in the Traditional Irish Arts, Culture and Heritage for young people, which was close to Ashling’s heart."
