Orange warning for snow and ice issued for Offaly
Met Éireann is forecasting further spells of sleet and snow today combined with strong northerly winds in Offaly.
The national meteorological service issued an orange-level snow and ice warning today, which takes effect from 9pm tonight (Thursday) and will remain in place until 10am tomorrow (Friday.)
Significant accumulations of snow are expected in some areas along with icy conditions. Lying snow and sub-zero temperatures overnight leading to icy stretches.
The sleet and snow will continue overnight over the eastern half of the country, but it will become drier further west with frost and ice developing under clear breaks. Lowest temperatures of -4 to 0 degrees coldest in the west, with northerly winds gradually easing light to moderate overnight.
Possible impacts could include very hazardous road conditions, travel disruption and poor visibility.
