Busy festive period for local parkrun

It was a busy time for Mount Lucas parkrun over the Christmas and New Year period.

Over 100 people braved the elements on Christmas Eve to walk, run and jog the 5km course and there were rewarded as they crossed the finish line with selection boxes, sponsored by Bord na Mona.

On that day, junior participant Fiadh celebrated her 50th parkrun with her family to much joy and excitement.

On New Year’s Eve, a further 50 participants turned up to work off the Christmas excesses.

While parkruns take place on Saturday mornings, a special Mount Lucas parkrun took place on New Year’s Day. There were visitors from Vicarstown parkrun and a family from Melbourne Australia also took part.

The McLoughlin family from Vicarstown parkrun deserve special mention, securing the top three male finishing positions and the top three female finishing positions. The sun came out and the route looked particularly beautiful with the winter colours of the surrounding landscape.

Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5k event for runners and walkers that takes place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 countries across the world.

Mount Lucas Parkrun is based at Mount Lucas Wind farm outside Daingean, so why not turn up at 9.30 am on Saturday morning to see what it is all about.
