Philadelphia beckons for renowned Ballinahown artist
Acclaimed Ballinahown artist Rosemarie Langtry is winging her way to Philadelphia this week with 25 other artists from every corner of Ireland.
Known for her distinctive encaustic art inspired by local bogland, Rosemarie joins ten other artists from the US for the prestigious international second annual 'Straight Out of Ireland' exhibition organised by the Irish Diaspora Centre of Philadelphia.
'Straight Out of Ireland' looks to showcase the incredible work of 26 Irish artists as well as US-based artists inspired by contemporary Ireland. All the work displayed highlights the stylish, modern aesthetic while embracing the soul of Ireland. The beneficiary of the event is the Irish Diaspora Center (formerly the Irish Immigration Center) of Greater Philadelphia.
The host venue, Sacred Heart Academy, has opened its beautiful mansion to the exhibit and serves as the perfect backdrop to display the work, meet artists, offer small group chats with the artists and other Irish talents.
Billed as an event featuring 'Ireland's Finest Contemporary Creative Talents', a wide range of contemporary artwork and crafts will be showcased at the high-profile event including paint, encaustic, jewellery, photography and lots more. It takes place from Friday, November 11 to 13 at Sacred Heart Academy 480 S. Bryn Mawr Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA.
The initiative which has been sponsored by Irish Diaspora Centre will also include a series of public discussions surrounding a wide range of topics, such as art in Ireland today and inspiration.
Prior to embarking on her trip, a delighted Rosemarie, who works from her studio in Ballinahown, said: “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to travel and exhibit with both Irish and American artists in Philadelphia. I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing this wonderful experience with like-minded people. It will be a great learning curve for me, and I am very grateful to The Irish Diaspora Centre of Philadelphia for including me in this prestigious exhibition and to my local Local Enterprise Office for their support”.
The Irish Diaspora Centre, formerly the Irish Immigration Centre organisation, aims to support the Irish immigrant community in Philadelphia and strengthen the heritage on a local, national, and international level.
