Kilbeggan meat processors look to renewables
Kepak has applied for planning permission to erect a 500kw wind turbine at its plant at Rostella, Kilbeggan.
The meat processor's planning application includes details for a wind turbine that would be located at the south area of its waste water treatment plant. If given the green light, the turbine hub will have a height of 65m and the diameter of the blades would be 44m. The decision due date for the application is January 10.
Kepak isn't the only meat processor in Kilbeggan planning on installing renewable energy sources at their plants. Last month, Dawn Meats applied for planning permission for a solar energy develoment at its facility on the Clara Road. The application includes details for the installation of photovoltaic solar panels on mounting frames, transformers, underground electrical and communications cabling, access tracks, security fencing and pole mounted security cameras.
The decision due date for the application is December 12.
