Offaly village second in Ireland's Tidiest Village contest

Geashill was pipped at the post by Rosscarberry in Co. Cork for the prestigious title of Ireland's Tidiest Village at the SuperValu Tidy Towns awards at the RDS this lunchtime.

The large attendance at the ceremony at the RDS heard citations for both villages, before, amid huge suspense, the winner was announced.

Geashill, which won the category as Ireland's Tidiest Village in 2021, did have the consolation of winning a gold medal in the 2022 SuperValu Tidy Towns, as well as the county award as the tidiest entrant in Offaly.

Second in Offaly was Clonbullogue, and third was Tullamore.

Tullamore also earned a gold medal, Birr earned a silver medal and Clonbullogue received a bronze medal.

Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded to entrants with scores that fall within a set range from that year’s winning score.

Nationally, the overall winner was Trim.

The main category winners were:

Ireland's Tidiest Large Urban Centre: Ennis, Co. Clare

Ireland's Tidiest Large Town: Trim, Co. Meath.

Ireland's Tidiest Small Town: Clonakility, Co. Cork.

Ireland's Tidiest Village: Rosscarbery, Co. Cork
