Offaly band Dugesia to release debut single

Offaly four-piece alternative rock band Dugesia are set to release their debut single 'You’re Wrong' on Friday, October 21 next. The song was recorded by lead singer and guitarist Niall Mannion, lead guitarist Paddy Dunne, drummer Jake Dooley and bass player Michael Daly who all hail from the Ferbane area.

'You’re Wrong' was written by Niall, who cites rock bands such as REM, Pixies and Nirvana as his influences.

Niall felt passionate about 'You’re Wrong' and introduced it to his band mates, who added their own flavours and spices to give the finished piece its own unique sound.

The lyrics behind 'You’re Wrong' are inspired by the subject of online bullying and social media abuse, a topic that will no doubt resonate with people across the board.

Niall explains: “After I came up with the structure of the song and began to think about lyrics, I was inspired by what I was seeing online on social media sites. I think people have got used to being very unkind, and sometimes vicious to each other, in ways that they wouldn’t be in real life if they met face to face.”

'You’re Wrong' is a blend of riff-based verses building up to a catchy guitar-driven chorus that is backed up by powerful drumming and toe tapping baselines.

The song was recorded in the Grouse Lodge Recording Studio just outside Moate in August 2021 with the final mix completed a few weeks later.

The music video shot to accompany the debut release features up-and-coming local actor Tadhg Devery, star of the award-winning movie 'Follow the Dead' in the lead role.

The single will be followed up later in the year Dugesia’s debut EP 'Under the Carpet'
