Funeral of Thomas Dooley taking place in Tullamore

There is a significant Garda presence in Tullamore ahead of the funeral tomorrow morning (Thursday) of Thomas Dooley, who died after a fatal assault at a cemetery after he had attended a funeral in Tralee last week.

The wake for Mr Dooley, a father of seven from Killarney, but who has strong family connections in Offaly, is currently underway at O’Reilly’s Funeral Home on Harbour Street in the town.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Assumption in Tullamore tomorrow morning and will be followed by burial in Clonminch cemetery..

The 43-year-old was fatally injured following an altercation in New Rath Cemetery, Tralee after a funeral on Wednesday of last week, October 5. His wife, Siobhán, who had accompanied her husband to the funeral, was also injured in the attack. She was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries but has since been released.

Two men have been charged with his murder, while another two men were questioned before being released without charge.
