Edenderry school launches new Power 2 Progress programme
Oaklands Community College, Edenderry recently hosted the launch of a new programme, Power 2 Progress, a programme from University College Dublin (UCD) in collaboration with Zurich Ireland and Rethink Ireland, aimed at supporting students achieve their academic goals.
As part of the programme, teachers from the school will provide additional educational support to participating students through weekly tutorials over the course of their senior cycle. Students involved also benefit from mobile devices to support their learning and onsite visits to UCD and Zurich offices based in Ireland to encourage students to pursue further education and professional careers.
Principal of Oaklands Community College, Brian Kehoe, added “We see first-hand the impact this programme is having on the attainment of the participating students in our school. The programme is in line with our core values, particularly excellence in education. We would like to thank UCD, LOETB, our teachers, Rethink Ireland and Zurich for their support in delivering the programme.”
Keynote speaker at the launch was Offaly native and UCD historian Prof. Paul Rouse who gave a very enjoyable and memorable talk about his educational journey and advice to the students for the future.
