Fitzpatrick's call for work on dangerous junction
There's a call this week for safety works at a dangerous junction in North Offaly.
Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick is asking Offaly County Council to carry out works at at Derreen Junction, Cloneygowan onto the R420 following an accident at the location recently.
He said he was been contacted by a number of local residents, and in particular, "a family who who were very lucky to survive a serious accident when a vehicle approaching from Cloneygowan village collided with the family car exiting the junction".
"I have met with the area engineer and the local staff at the area to see what works can be done to make this a safe and easily accessible junction for local residents who live in Derreen. "
"A report has been sent to the senior roads engineer for the area proposing to remove some of the hedgerow and level off the road edge to allow greater vision for all motorists. I will be continue to monitor this with Offaly County Council until this junction is made safe," Cllr Fitzpatrick vowed.
