Faile Vintage Club launches 2022 Tractor Run

Faile Vintage Club has announced details of its 2022 Tractor Run, after two years’ absence due to Covid restrictions.

This year the charities to benefit are Irish Wheelchair Association, Ballinagar, and Offaly Hospice. The run will take place on Sunday, March 13, with registration from 9.30am outside Seerys, Daingean. The run will move off at approx. 12.30pm from Daingean to Rahugh via Killians Cross. There will be refreshments and music outside Seerys during registration and the party atmosphere will continue at The Hazel, Rahugh, with more music and refreshments and also an auction. Registration cards have been issued to both charities so all support is very much appreciated.

Josephine Kenny (Services Co Ordinator IWA) was delighted the IWA has been selected by FAILE Vintage Club. During Covid, the IWA continued to provide services to approx. 45 people over a four-day period in the Ballinagar Centre. They also provide outreach supports and provide a wide range of activities – Creative Writing (LOETB), Computer training (BTTC), Arts & Crafts, Bingo, Cards and Horticulture to name a few. The money raised will provide the deposit needed to support an application for car funding. Accessible transport is vital for the IWA.

Ned and Mary Smyth are well known for their lifelong support of Offaly Hospice. They were on hand, along with Breda Grace, to promote the Tractor Run. Offaly Hospice has always provided services for patients and their families. In recent years it has also launched the Midlands Hospice Building Fund. This is a major project to provide Midlands Specialist Palliative Care Unit in the midlands.

Both charities appreciate and need the support. The Faile Vintage Run is a great family day out and Chairperson Roger Scally said he is delighted to be back fund raising. The committee members put a lot of effort into organizing the run but it is the continued support from the participants, the charities and their supporters that make it such a great event.
