Man dies in Tullamore accident

A man in his 70s has died following an accident close to Tullamore this morning (Monday).

The two vehicle collision happened along the N52 at Bunaterin, close to Blueball shortly after 10am.

A man in his 70s and the sole occupant of the first vehicle was fatally injured in the crash.

His body has been removed from the scene to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore where a post mortem will take place in due course.

The other driver, man in his 30s, and sole occupant of the second vehicle received non life threatening injuries and was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore for treatment.

The road was closed for several hours to facilitate Forensic Collision Investigators who examined the scene. The stretch has now reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
