Milk production resumes at Glenisk plant five days after devastating fire
Milk production resumed at the Glenisk plant in Killeigh over the weekend in a section of the factory that was miraculously left untouched by a massive fire which gutted the premises on Monday of last week.
The first cartons of goats milk rolled off the production line at the dairy processing unit on Saturday morning last, just five days after a devastating fire that completely engulfed the award-winning yogurt production facility.
The milk processing unit was the only section of the manufacturing plant in Newtown, on the outskirts of the village of Killeigh, to remain unscatched by the huge fire, and once electricity and water was restored to the unit, production was able to resume once again.
Commercial Manager for Glenisk, Emma Walls, told RTE News that all the staff at the company were hard at work. "There have been no job losses, no layoffs, no redundancies" she said "what is the key thing about Glenisk is that its not just about the building and the manufacturing process, it's about the people and the farmers that supply us and we are determined to fight for those jobs."
Glenisk are continuing to collect milk for all 50 organic dairy farmers around the country that supply the manufacturing plant, and Managing Director, Vincent Cleary, has expressed the hope that the plant can be rebuilt with all sections fully operational by January 1, 2022.
