Dunkerrin NS’s ‘Bucks for Books' fundraiser
A local primary school has started an online campaign to raise funds to purchase books for its pupils.
Dunkerrin national school's new Bucks for Books campagin aims to raise €4,500. In a message on the GoFundMe website, the school said that the purchase of the books would "help the pupils reach their reading potential".
"The campaign has been set up by Scoil Muire National School in Dunkerrin. Scoil Muire is a warm, welcoming and friendly school in the village of Dunkerrin that strives to provide a safe, secure and happy environment where children are actively involved in their own learning.
The school takes pride in this caring environment where all children are encouraged and nurtured to grow and develop to be the best they can be.
"Some years ago, with the support of the Parents Association, the school purchased half of what is known as the ‘PM+ readers collection’. PM readers is a reading programme with a pedagogically sound, proven approach to making every child a successful, balanced reader.
The PM + collection contains over hundreds of carefully levelled fiction and non-fiction texts and they are ideal books for shared, guided and independent reading at all levels of ability."
At the time of writing over €1,100 had been donated.
