Offaly poets to go live for National Poetry Day

Offaly poets have come together to celebrate National Poetry Day, and the fruits of their labours will be aired live on the Offaly Arts Facebook page tomorrow evening (Thursday, April 29) at 5pm in a live event where everyone is invited to come together to celebrate the spoken word.

The live event will be facilitated by local poet and author, Pauline McNamee, and will feature a number of local poets reading from their work.

The theme of this year's National Poetry Day is "New Beginnings: Maps and Journeys" and all participants were asked to consider what images, symbols and thoughts came to mind when they were reflecting on the notion of new beginnings. Similarly, when reflecting on maps and journeys, people were asked to ponder on what images came to their minds.

Offaly Arts Office put out the call for people to get involved in National Poetry Day by either reading or reciting a written or spoken word poem. Participants were asked to read a poem they had written themselves, or a poem by their favourite poet, and they were delighted with the response they received from the general public.

The Offaly Poetry Forum will be live on the Offaly Arts Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/offalyarts between 5pm and 6pm tomorrow evening, so why not join this unique live event and "come hear the words, ponder, be surprised and inspired."
