Plans for 38 houses in Clara unveiled

A plan for 38 houses in Raheen, Clara, has gone out for public consultation.

Offaly County Council plans to develop a greenfield site located on the outskirts of Clara, approximately 11 kilometres from Tullamore, with a mix of two storey semi-detached and bungalows in groups of one, two and four.

The site is just off the end of Church Street as it veers sharply right towards Tubber and is located between the R420 (road to Tubber) and the local road.

It is on the opposite side of the R420 to the housing on Church Road and slightly closer to the town of Clara.

The development consists of 38 dwellings, including six 1-bed single storey, two 2-bed bungalows, 12 two-bed two storey terrace units, one 3-bed bungalow, 14 three-bed two storey semi-detached units, one 4-bed bungalow and two 4-bed two storey semi-detached units.

The houses will be accessed directly from the existing local road L2017.

There are also plans to construct two controlled pedestrian crossings to the R420, along with the realignment of the junction of the L20157 Local Road with the R420 Regional Road, as well as the provision of a new footpath to the R420 and L2017.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development are now available for inspection or purchase for a period of four weeks.

Submissions or observations on the proposed development may be made in writing to The Director of Services, Housing Section, Offaly County Council, Tullamore, for a period of six weeks, beginning on Wednesday January 27.

In the event that council offices remain closed to the public because of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, plans and particulars will be available for inspection or purchase by appointment with the Housing Department.

An appointment for viewing can be arranged by telephone on 057 9346800 or by email at housing@offalycoco.ie

Any person may, within four weeks beginning on Wednesday January 27, apply to An Bord Pleanála for a screening determination as to whether the development would be likely to have significant effects on the environment.

Closing date for submissions or observations is Thursday March 1 at 12pm.
