John Leahy calls time on political career
Offaly Councillor John Leahy has decided to call time on his career in local politics.
The former leader of Renua has said that, given the current political landscape in the constituency of Laois/Offaly, he does not believe he will ever secure a Dail seat. The Kilcormac native unsuccessfully contested three general elections between 2011 and 2020.
Mr. Leahy says he in not interested in continuing to pursue a career in local politics where he cannot make any substantial policy changes.
Signalling his intention to retire from local politics in June 2021 at the latest, John Leahy is preparing to co-opt a fellow Kilcormac man to his vacant seat on Offaly County Council.
