Offaly has another Oireachtas member

Green Party’s Pippa Hackett from Geashill has been elected to Seanad Eireann from the Agricultural Panel.

Hackett was one of eleven candidates elected following a count that commenced last evening and concluded in the last hour.

Hackett was first elected to Offaly County Council last year and then just five months later was elected unopposed to the Seanad to the seat vacated by her Green Party colleague Waterford's Grace O'Sullivan who had been elected to the European Parliament.

She then ran in the General Election and performed creditably before securing a party nomination to contest the Seanad Election.

She was elected on the 20th count today.
