Six people have now died as a result of COVID-19
Two more people have died as a result of COVID-19, the Department of Health, bringing the number of lives lost to six.
The two cases involve males in the east of the country and chief medical officer Tony Holohan said the department had not been been informed that there is an underlying condition.
In Offaly, one more case was confirmed during Saturday, bringing the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county by midnight on Saturday to 10.
Nationally, an additional 219 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed since yesterday, bringing the total to 1,125.
Dr Tony Holohan said the National Public Health Emergency Team would be making its position known to Government tomorrow on whether to extend the closure of schools beyond March 29.
Today’s data from HPSC, as of midnight, Saturday 21 March (836 cases), reveals:
· 55% are male and 44% are female, with 37 clusters involving 210 cases
· the median age of confirmed cases is 44 years
· 25 cases have been admitted to ICU
· 208 cases (25%) are associated with healthcare workers
· Dublin has the highest number of cases at 471, (56% of all cases) followed by Cork with 104 cases (12%)
· Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 45%, close contact accounts for 23%, travel abroad accounts for 31%
