Tullamore firms step up to help wider business community

The proprietor of a small business in Tullamore has also launched an initiative to help struggling businesses as the impact of the coronavirus hits the local economy.

Kieran Conroy of the Square Cafe bought three €30 vouchers from small businesses in the Tullamore area and wants other local firms to do the same.

"What were are trying to do is to try and generate a bit of income and awareness to try and keep everyone going at this time. What we plan to do once we reopen is to run a competition and our customers can nominate people who they think deserve it, it might be a nurse or a doctor or a guard or someone who has suffered.

"We want to get people to support small businesses and get small businesses to support each other."

Meanwhile, acclaimed Tullamore Restaurant the Blue Apron has offered a free glass of prosecco, once in reopens, to every diner who buys a voucher from another local business over the next few weeks. All the diner has to do is take a photograph of the voucher as proof.

The restaurant's owners Sarah and Kenan Pehlivan have been widely praised for encouraging the public to support local businesses at this very difficult time.
