Fine Gael TD, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, welcomed the announcement this week of the €289,895 in funding for six projects in Offaly under the LEADER programme.

“I am really pleased to receive confirmation from my colleague in Government, the Minister for Rural & Community Development, Michael Ring TD that €289,895 has been allocated to 6 very worthy projects in Offaly," said Deputy Corcoran Kennedy.

“I am delighted to see The Charleville Centre in Tullamore receive €129,981 towards the construction of a community garden at the back of the centre.

“Pullough Community Centre has received a significant boost with €112,230 approved for the development of additional meeting rooms, wheelchair-accessible toilet and store room.

“Cloghan Community Development Association will receive €24,550 to carry out upgrades and improvement works at Millenium Park and the Moneygall Community Garden has been allocated €7,064 towards the installation of a solar photovoltaic system, rain-water harvesting system and irrigation.

“Two other projects have also been approved LEADER funding towards new equipment for a Holistic Centre and equipment for a counselling centre.

“The LEADER programme funds projects under a diverse range of themes that include enterprise development, rural tourism, social inclusion and the environment. LEADER is a key component of Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.

“LEADER funding represents an enormous opportunity for rural businesses and communities that are in need of investment and I am determined to see the programme continuing to grow and make a difference here in Offaly over the coming years,” Deputy Corcoran Kennedy concluded.
