Tullamore man appointed Athlone Superintendent
Tullamore man Aidan Minnock is set for a return to Athlone as the new Garda Superintendent for the district, following the latest reshuffle of senior Gardaí.
Supt Minnock, who was promoted to the rank of Superintendent in 2017, previously served as an Inspector in Athlone for more than seven years, from 2010-2017.
A native of Tullamore, he is married to Mary and the couple have two daughters, Amy and Kate.
During the past year, Supt Minnock has been stationed at Garda Headquarters, and was also assigned to a Homicide Investigation review.
He replaces Supt Shane Cummins in Athlone, who has been assigned to the Western Region headquarters where he will take responsibility for the Crime Hub in the Galway Division.
The transfers are part of the announcement of the allocation of Chief Superintendents and Superintendents by An Garda Síochána this week.
Supt Minnock will be returning to Athlone in July just in time for the opening of the first phase of the new Garda station.
Gardaí are due to move into the redeveloped social welfare building, adjacent to the existing station, in the coming weeks.
The original station building will then also be refurbished.
