LEGO exhibition in Birr library

If you love LEGO, Birr Library is the place to be on Saturday, January 26.

Brick.ie, the Irish Association for Adult Fans of LEGO®, will be putting on a show of their amazing creations, which will be sure to delight visitors of all ages. Most of the models to be displayed have been designed and built by Brick.ie members and some of these have already received recognition of the highest order at international exhibitions.

A family play area with thousands of bricks will also be a feature of the day so everyone can join in the fun.

Acclaimed LEGO® artist Jessica Farrell from Kildare is the main organiser of the exhibition. She and her son Faolán recently completed a model replica of the Subtropical Swimming Paradise that is currently being constructed at the soon be opened Centre Parcs in Longford. The 2 metre x 1.5 metre Lego model, which took 105 days to build using 55,667 Lego bricks.

Jessica says that working with LEGO® presents a unique set of challenges to artists.

There is a unique challenge when choosing bricks as media. One must work within the limitations of a finite number of pieces, shapes and colours, yet with enough creativity the possibilities are limitless.

A further bit of paradox for me: LEGO is of such high quality that the bricks are practically indestructable yet my models are ephemeral. Some models, once built and exhibited for a reasonable length of time, are broken down so I can reuse the (very expensive) parts in new models.

The event will run from 10am to 5pm and admission is free. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
