Tullamore teacher designs charity coffee cup
Joe Caslin is one of three leading artists who have designed eco-friendly coffee cups to raise funds for three Irish charities.
Twenty percent of the proceeds of the sales of the Root Before We Rise cup designed by Caslin, will go to the suicide prevention charity Pieta House.
Speaking at the launch Caslin, who teaches in Tullamore College, said that project is worthwhile on a number of fronts.
“I firmly believe in the power of art to advocate and to provoke and I’m passionate about social change. I was more than happy to contribute a design to a project that both helps to reduce environmental damage from single-use products but also supports charity.”
Each of the cups are crafted from bamboo fibre, the world’s fastest growing and most sustainable crop and feature a recyclable silicon lid and sleeve. They are BPA and phthalate free without petrochemical plastic and are dishwasher safe.
The Coffee with a Cause range is the brainchild of Dublin entrepreneur Zoe Hertelendi, the founder of Edamame.
Commenting on the launch she said: “At Edamame, our mission is to provide cost-effective, affordable and reusable solutions to single use waste. But more than that we want to show that environmentally-friendly products don’t have to be dull and boring but can be colourful and inspiring.
"We’re thrilled to have partnered with such fantastic Irish artists to support such great charities in this season of giving”.
The ‘Coffee with a Cause’ cups start at €13.95 and are available alongside the full Edamame product range online at www.edamameeco.com and in-store in Dublin at Platform 61 on South William Street.
