Can you help the homeless?
Tullamore anti poverty activist Ken Smollen has sent out an appeal for items to help the homeless in Dublin, some of whom are Offaly natives, he says.
Mr Smollen posted this appeal on his Facebook page:
Many people from Offaly and other rural counties are struggling to survive in Dublin where they have gone to work. With the enormous rents being charged for housing many are being helped with food, clothing and sleeping bags on a regular basis by homeless charities such as Feed Our Homeless.
Sadly some people are even making their way to Dublin from Offaly and other rural counties just to get food and clothing as feelings of embarrassment and shame are preventing them from seeking help in their own localities
If anyone in Offaly would like to make donations of any of the items on the list below please leave a comment under this post if we’re not friends on Facebook as a lot of messages are being filtered and I don’t see them. If we are friends on Facebook, please send a message to me on Messenger/Facebook. Alternatively just send a text to me on 0851432898.
***I’ll be taking a few hours away from the Ken Smollen Food Appeal on Sunday 2nd December to collect donated items and will immediately deliver them to Tom Duffy in Portlaoise. Tom is one of the fantastic volunteers with Feed Our Homeless. Tom, Tony Walsh and Feed Our Homeless have been very helpful to us with supplies of non-perishable food.
The items required are as follows:
Sleeping bags (Urgent) – hats – gloves – socks – mens/womens underwear –
Pot noodles – crisps – biscuits – diluted orange – small bottles of water – small bottles of minerals, coke, orange, etc – tubs of sweets – selection boxes.
