Starring role for local actor in Christmas ad
An Offaly actor is the star of a major new TV ad campaign.
The Tipperary Crystal ad, which was first broadcast on RTE and Virgin Media today, Friday November 16 and will run until Christmas Eve, features Ferbane's Tadhg Devery as a father travelling home to his family for Christmas.
Speaking to the Offaly Independent, Tadhg said that the release of the ad is the perfect end to what has been the busiest year in his acting career so far.
In addition to starring in a number of short films, Tadhg featured in Simon Casey's latest music video which also starred well known Irish actor Patrick Bergin. Many film and TV stars, including the likes of Michael Fassbender, cut their teeth on TV ads and Tadhg said that he hopes that it will lead to bigger and better things in 2018.
“I'm hoping that being in the ad will be good for me. It will increase my exposure. Being in a TV ad is a pretty big deal as they are hard enough to get.
“I worked with the production team before which made it even better as I knew everyone and got on with them.
“I had a goal this year of getting a TV commercial and it didn't matter what it was, so to get a Christmas one is even better. Hopefully, it will run for years and years and will stand out from the crowd.”
The commercial was filmed in Clane and Athy in April. Its director Enda Grace of Dundra Television and Media said that the aim was to centre the campaign around the theme of traditional Christmas gifting.
“My initial thought was we need the viewer to feel the Irish authenticity of the Tipperary Crystal brand while linking in with that Irish homely feel so important at this time of year,” explained director and Dundara Television and Media owner Enda Grace.
“It developed into a lovely warm piece showing the importance of family especially at Christmas.”
Producer Alan Brereton produced the soundtrack to the commercial.
