New dog walking club for Tullamore
The organisers of a new dog walking group in Tullamore are running an information morning next Thursday.
Among the topics covered at the event in the Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC) office next Thursday October 18 will be managing your dog's health and wellbeing, help with managing your dog around others and information on dog grooming and training.
A well being initiative run by the OLDC, the Tullamore Dog Walking Group is already proving very popular with local dog lovers, according to co-ordinator Amanda Caulfield.
“It has been tried a lot in other areas and is a big thing in Australia due to the mental well being benefits around it. The main aim is to get like minded people coming together and socialising.
“The thing is the focus is on the dog and when the focus is on the dog people are interacting with each other. At the moment we have eight to ten people joining the group every week and they range in age from the mid 20s to over 60s. It's been great so far.”
Ms Caulfield added that you don't need to own a dog to join the group.
“We actually have two walkers who would love to have a dog but due to their circumstances can't. They come along and walk the dogs of a lady who has three pets. It's really interactive and very sociable.”
While all things canine will be discussed at Thursday morning's event at the OLDC office in Millennium House, Main Street people must attend without their animal. The event runs from 11am to 12pm.
