Ferbane singer celebrates another number one
Ferbane singer Olivia Douglas is celebrating this week after her new single went to number one in the country charts.
I'm off to Lisdoonvarna in the Morning is the Offaly singer's second single to top the country singles charts this year following her success with Leaving Tipperary in April.
“It’s a great feeling, I’m delighted. It’s [I'm off to Lisdoonvarna] a brilliant song from Shunie Crampsey, and it really seems to have connected with people again,” remarked Olivia.
“The response has been amazing since we put it out there, and as well as to Shunie, who actually wrote the song especially for me, I have to say a huge thank-you to everyone in country radio who have been so supportive of me again.”
Olivia continued: “We’ve been watching it make its way into the Top 40 first of all, and then slowly moving upwards day by day, but the truth is you never know how far a song is going to go. And of course, the higher it goes, the higher you want it to go, which is only human nature, I suppose. But the closer it actually gets to the top, the harder it is to check how it’s doing, because it gets too tense”, laughs Olivia.
“So I just get someone to check for me so I don’t have to go through that!”
Olivia also had a special message for her fans.
“I have to send a very special shout-out to my fans as well, because I know from all the messages I’ve been getting and from people coming up to me at gigs, that they’re all requesting the single from their local stations, and that kind of support means so much to any artist. “
Looking ahead to 2019, Olivia hinted at some exciting news that might be coming soon.
“It’s been such a memorable year for me in terms of my career, with so many high points along the way, and so many great opportunities which have presented themselves. It’ll be hard for next year to match it, and I wouldn’t ever just assume that it’s even going to be close. But we have a few things in the pipeline that we’ll be able to talk more about soon, and that will hopefully get the year off to a good start, fingers crossed, touch wood, and all of that![laughs]. And sure look, we’ll see where it all goes from there then. But in the meantime, this is another moment to try and enjoy along the way.”
