New Lidl store gets planning go-ahead
Lidl has welcomes the decision from Offaly County Council for a second store in Tullamore.
The council this week gave planning permission to a proposed development at Church Road, Tullamore.
This development will see a substantial investment into the local area as well as the creation of up to 20 permanent new jobs once the store opens, as well as many more during the construction phase.
The new development will see the regeneration of the brownfield town centre zoned site which was formerly the site of the old Bacon Factory. The Lidl application has provided for a new riverside walk along the Tullamore River and a new link road between Church Road and Tanyard Lane.
The planned new store will see Lidl continue its major investment in Co. Offaly that started with its modernisation of its Main Street unit in Tullamore in 2015, followed by the reopening of its new Edenderry store in December 2017 and its ongoing redevelopment of the Birr store.
Lidl said it would also host a follow up public meeting on June 27 at 7pm in the Bridge House.
Myles Shortall the Acquisitions Manager for Lidl said: “The regeneration of this site will dramatically improve the approach into Tullamore and the new store design incorporating local stone cladding will enhance the urban fabric of the town."
